Care

Silver is made to be lived in. Worn often, it settles into a soft, even glow that suits it well. A little care now and then keeps a piece looking the way you like it, and most of what it needs is simple.

Wearing it every day

The best thing you can do for silver is wear it. Skin contact keeps it bright, and a piece you reach for often rarely needs much else. Put it on after your moisturiser, perfume, and hairspray have settled, so the metal stays clean against your skin.

By the second week, a ring you never take off tends to disappear on your hand. That is the point. Let it become part of how you move through the day.

What to keep it away from

A few everyday things dull silver faster than time does. None of this is fragile, it just lasts longer with a little thought.

  • Take pieces off before swimming. Chlorine and salt water are hard on solid silver.
  • Slip rings off when you use household cleaners or strong soaps.
  • Let lotion, sunscreen, and perfume dry before you put a piece back on.
  • Set jewellery aside for the gym, the garden, and a deep clean around the house.

A simple clean

When a piece starts to look tired, bring it back at home in a few minutes. Use warm water, a drop of mild dish soap, and a soft cloth or a clean soft toothbrush for the places your fingers cannot reach. Rinse it well and dry it fully before you put it away.

If silver has darkened a little, a soft polishing cloth brings the shine back with a gentle rub. Skip the harsh chemical dips. They strip more than they fix.

Putting it away

Air and damp are what darken silver when it sits unworn. Keep each piece dry, and store it on its own so chains do not tangle and stones do not scratch. A soft pouch or a lined box, kept somewhere cool, is all it asks for.

None of this takes long, and most of it you will only do now and then. Wear your pieces, keep them simply, and they will stay yours for years.
